Mark Mongillo's #56 team was tied for 29th position for owner points, so that entry was automatically guaranteed a spot in the race.

The test race for the new q-races was overshadowed by a massive crash on lap 12 when Steven Volk turned Marcus Powell in the backstretch, instead, he spun into the safer barrier opening and the front of the car ripped open upon impact, Casey Lester then slammed into the 29 immediately after Volk smashed the wall.It was reported that Volk was unconscious upon being removed from the car and he was sent to Las Vegas Medical Center immediately where is currently in critical condition.
